The Sounds of the Caribbean

Residents and guests at The Fountains at Washington House were treated to another festive outdoor summer event that transported the community to a tropical frame of mind. This Caribbean themed event featured Michael George who is a one man steel drum band. The celebration was held outside to make it more of an Island experience and included calypso music, colorful balloon decorations, tasty Caribbean appetizers and tropical drinks which everyone enjoyed.

About the Artist
Michael George was born in Trinidad, West Indies. He started music at an early age and has toured many countries throughout the world playing the steel drum. His specialty is in the Alto steel pan. In addition to soloing on the Alto steel pan, Michael is a composer and also plays with a group called CAISO (Caribbean American International Steel Orchestra). CAISO has been performing in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area for over 20 years. The band’s notable appearances have been on local TV stations, the Smithsonian Institute Botanical Gardens and in Annapolis, MD.

Michael is one of the few pan soloists who accompanies himself with the harmonica while playing his instrument. He enjoys playing gospel, but can melodically tap out favorites from the European Classics, Caribbean Calypso, Reggae, American Jazz, Blues and Rock.
