The Springs residents and associates had a great time at Fort Ward Park during their annual picnic on a perfect day in June! Fort Ward Park is the home of the Fort Ward Museum and a 41.4 acre historic park located on the west end of Old Town Alexandria. The land was used as a union fort from 1861-1865 to defend Washington, DC during the Civil War. Walk the grounds and you’ll see cannons, underground bombproofs which sheltered 500 men, and reconstructed quarters of the high-ranking soldiers. The park also includes two shelters, a playground, picnic areas, and a dog exercise area.
Everyone enjoyed the cookout and the aroma of grilled hotdogs and hamburgers prepared by Chris Scharles and The Fountains Dining Services team. Associates who participated had the chance to play games, balloon toss and share stories with residents while enjoying the outdoors. After lunch, residents had fun cheering for the associates playing frisbee and can’t wait for the next beautiful day to be back at the park.
